Rocket Piano

Rocket Piano Review

I've heard a lot about Rocket Piano, so I decided to try it out for myself. Find out what happened when I tried Rocket Piano.

I know that there are seemingly millions of courses that can teach you how to play the piano.  You know how I know this?  Because it feels like I've bought almost all of them. LOL.

Some are fine, but the majority of them are way below sub-standard. Of course, they are going to tell you the basics and the fundamentals, and what notes are what.  The problem lies with the lack of motivation.

Most of the courses I've ever bought didn't do a great job of keeping myself motivated and improving myself as a piano player.

I think it goes without saying that the best way to learn is to go see an actual piano teacher a few times a week.   This is a great idea, except for one tiny thing.  IT'S REALLY EXPENSIVE.

Obviously the benefit of having a real human instructor in the room with you can't be surpassed.  They can give you instant feedback and let you know what you are doing right and wrong.    The problem was that I didn't want to spend $150 a week for this privilege.

When you consider how many lessons you have to go to, the costs can be quite high.  I guess if you are making a lot of money, then it's not a big deal, but that wasn't the case with me.

For me the musical "bug" hit me during my early 20s. I got into rock n roll at that time.  I know I was a little late to the party on that one.  Most people get into rock music in their teen years.

I heard the song "Highway To Hell" by ACDC and there was no looking back.  I went on to listen to nothing but party hard rock bands like KISS, Aerosmith, Van Halen.  It was a lot of fun, but I didn't have the deepest musical tastes.

One day though, my friend let me borrow a CD of hers. It was "Whatever and Ever Amen" by Ben Folds Five.  She kept on insisting that I should listen to it.  I told her I wasn't a big fan of piano based music.  I thought it was kind of wimpy.  I told you I didn't have very deep musical tastes at that time.

But I was blown away with how interesting and edgy it sounded.  I was very biased towards hard rock guitar driven songs at the time.  When I thought of the piano, I couldn't help but think of classical music, which is beautiful but very cold sounding to me.

But I couldn't believe how great the  jazz-inspired alternative rock sounded.

After that I got into other piano-based rock music like Something Corporate, The Fray, Keane.  My misconception of rock stars with chainsaw guitars and stacks of Marshall Amps was all wrong.

But I didn't want to just be a fan.  I wanted to be able to participate in this.  I got the urge to learn to play the piano.

I knew I wasn't going to be the next Stevie Wonder (who is for that matter), but I just wanted to be able to play.

I Tried A Lot Of Piano Books/Videos

My mother (bless her heart) goes to a lot of outdoor estate sales, where you can find stuff at dirt cheap prices.  She knew I was looking for piano or a keyboard.  She was able find this used digital piano, which she bought for $25.00!!

I was stunned when she surprised me with it.  I was like a little kid. I wanted to just play with the keys and make noises. I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but it was fun to play around with.

Needless to say, the very next day, I went online and started to look for courses on how to play the piano.   I would buy one course, and be bored with it, and then buy another course, be bored with it, and buy another one, and so forth and so on.

I was getting a little bit better, but it still didn't sound good. I just had a really difficult time "getting it".

What was making it extremely frustrating to me was the fact that I was putting in a lot of time and effort on to this, and considering the awful noises that were coming out, I wasn't very happy.

I remember seeing videos of Ray Charles on the piano and it would just be mind-blowing to me.  I really admired the skill and talent that he had, but on the other hand, I couldn't figure out "how in the world could somebody do that".  I'm still struggling with the basics.

I was telling my next door neighbor, Michael all about it. How I put all this effort into it, and I wasn't really progressing as much as I would have hoped to.

He told me that he was thinking about dabbling into learning how to play piano.  I told him "I wish I could say it was simple".  But I was so frustrated with the whole thing, that I just let him borrow my digital piano.

I told him "good luck......because I didn't have any".

A Few Weeks Later

It had been a few weeks since I let Michael borrow my digital piano.  I honestly hadn't given it a second thought.  I didn't even get a chance to see him during that time.

It was the really busy part of the year at my work.  I was working about 70 hours a week.  I was working on the weekends.  Even if I was still trying to learn the piano, I didn't even have much time to practice.

One day, though I got off of work a little earlier than normal.  When I got home, Michael's door was open and I heard music playing. It was "Everybody Hurts" by REM, and it sounded really good.

I thought "nah........that can't be Michael playing".  Wouldn't you know it, I go to his door, and take a look inside and there he was playing the song on my digital piano. I was completely stunned.

He looked at me with a big smile on his face. I could tell he was having a really fun time playing.

I, on the other hand was feeling a bit of mixed emotion.  The first emotion that I was feeling was pure jealousy. He was playing an actual song!  He was so much better at playing the piano within 3 weeks than I was after 3 months.

It was in that instance that I thought to myself "WOW, there must be something really wrong with me".  I thought I had some kind of musical learning disability.  Either that or Michael was musical freak of nature (at least compared to me).

The other feeling I had was curiosity.  After he got done playing, I immediately asked him "Alright, how did you learn to do that"?

He told me that he was just practicing a lot.  He told me that he bought this course called Rocket Piano.

I had honestly never heard of it. He began to tell me what the course was about. I hung out with him as he kept playing more piano.  After it was over, he gave me back my piano.  He told me he ordered a new one online.

When I went home, I immediately went on the computer.  I wanted to check out the Rocket Piano website.

I thought the site looked nice. It gave you a sneak peak as to what the course consisted of, and it did seem like a lot of information.  Much more than a lot of the previous courses I purchased.

I was extremely hesitant.  How could I not be?  I had bought so much crap that I was just naturally skeptical of anything.  But Michael had gone on to tell me how much it helped him, and I could definitely see it with my own eyes.

Should I Buy It Or Not?

I was sitting there contemplating on whether I should hit the order now button.   After all, it had been about 3 weeks since I last touched the piano.  So, I knew was going to be extremely rusty.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go through all the trouble. But then I said to myself "ah.....what the hell? Let's give it another whirl"

I saw that on the website that Rocket Piano had an unconditional money back guarantee on its home page. So, I figured should it not work out for me, I'll just ask for a refund.

I got my credit card and bought it.

Right after the purchase, the course was available for download.  I proceeded to begin to read the content.

You know how I said that the home page on Rocket Piano tells you that there is a lot of content in the course?  Well....that's not even scratching the surface. Let's just say there was a lot to go through.

What was really amazing was how incredibly detailed everything was. The course covers every single, little nuance

As I was going through all the course material, one thing became very obvious to me.  All of the other courses I had taken about learning to play the piano were very general in its detail.

Most of those courses just kind of gave you general instructions, which you were supposed to follow.

Rocket Piano literally grabs you by the hand and meticulously shows you exactly what you are supposed to do. You can tell that this course was not just thrown together in the last minute.  Heck.......just the interactive software alone is worth the price of the course.

Putting The Course Into Practice

When I first began playing as I was taking the course, I won't lie to you.  I was rustier than an old barn after a thunderstorm.

It really amazed me how much I forgot in such a short period of time (not that I knew much to begin with). I felt as if I didn't have any control of my fingers.

But I tried to relax and be patient.  I just tried to do my best and follow the instructions of Rocket Piano.

Slowly, but surely, everything started to synch in. The piano began to sound like it was supposed to. :)

It wasn't just the fact that the content was so detailed, it also helped that there were SO MANY little hints that really made a difference.

As I began my 2nd week of training, and I could tell that I was getting more comfortable stroking the keys.  Everything just began to make sense.

Before, practice would be like torture to me.  Probably because I was struggling so much. But it was amazing how much fun, just practicing is when you know what you are doing.

I remember one day my girlfriend got out of the shower, and said "honey, you are starting to sound good", which made me feel great.  I can tell I was getting better, but it was nice to hear to from a fellow human. :)

That next morning, I was feeling so confident about how much I was improving that I thought I would try to play an  actual song.  I had the sheet music for (ironically) Piano Man by Billy Joel.

I began to play it.

The first time I tried to play it, it was completely unrecognizable. LOL.

The second time........it sounded awful.

The third time was better, but not very good.

The fourth time was decent.

The fifth time...... I could have sworn Billy Joel was in the room with me. LOL.

I was so happy, that I woke my girlfriend up. I was as giddy as a little kid.  I told her to listen to this.

I began to play Piano Man, and she recognized the song after the first few notes. We both began to sing it, as I played.  It was so much fun!!

Did I Become The Next Beethoven?

Well....no.  That would be ridiculous. But it did turn out pretty well for me.  It's been about 3 months since I started the Rocket Piano course.

I play every single day.  I can play many songs on command. That is something that I never thought I would be able to do.

I'm even starting to write my own music.  Who knows.....maybe you'll hear it someday. :)

I just wanted to create a website about my experience because I know that there are a lot of people who are trying to find an inexpensive way to learn to play piano. I also know what it's like to try to find quality information online.

Rocket Piano proves that there are people who provide a quality course at a reasonable price.

It's a course that is perfect for both the beginner and intermediate player.

It was one of the best investments I have ever made, and it wasn't solely because I was able to learn to play the piano. It was much more than that.

  • The incredible sense of accomplishment. Look, I know that learning to play the piano isn't exactly like walking on the moon.  But for me, it was a really big deal. It's something that I always dreamed of doing, and I was able to accomplish this feat.
  • I've learned to appreciate music a lot more than I used to. I have a friend who just graduated from film school.  He told me you don't really appreciate how difficult it is to make a film, until you are behind the scenes.  I feel the same exact way about music.  I can appreciate how difficult it is to be able to create something musically that makes people notice.

You can purchase rocket piano by going to their website.
