Learning To Play The Piano
Have you been thinking about playing the piano but aren’t sure how to get started? Do you want to learn piano
playing quickly and become as good as possible at it? If you are just starting out with the piano it’s important to
make the right decisions. You will want to learn the basics and be able to continue to develop and fine tune your
skills so you will become a good piano player.
Learning to play the piano does not have to be a hard task. Piano playing mastery will depend a lot on how well
you are able to develop the basic skills. One critical skill in piano playing mastery that should not be neglected
is reading music. This is important for you to truly become a good piano player.
Unfortunately there are many people who try to learn the piano but never build up their skills for reading
music. The ability to read notes is one of the building blocks for learning the piano, just as crawling is a
developmental step in our learning to walk. Many times people are too anxious and want to learn to play quickly but
don’t take the time develop some fundamental skills.
Some people don’t see the point in learning to read music in their quest to play the piano. The ability to read
music is a very important skill and aspiring pianists need to master it and be able to do it without thinking about
it. It needs to be second nature. If you are planning to become a piano player make sure you put in the time
learning how to read music.
One thing to focus on when you are learning to read music and play the Rocket piano is to look at the notes on the page rather than looking down at the piano keys.
In the beginning you may need to look at the keys to find their location, but you need to develop your ability to
focus on the musical notes. This will increase your speed at reading music and improve your playing.
Another skill that will help your playing sound smoother and more natural is the ability to read ahead. As you
are focusing on the musical notes you need to look ahead at the upcoming notes, just as you do when you are reading
a book. By doing that you will know what notes are next and it’s easier to get you hands ready for the next
transitions.
Developing the skill of reading notes ahead will take a lot of practice. It is best to start out slow. Look a
little bit ahead, just a few notes. You need to remember the notes you are currently playing as well as the notes
that are coming up. After you practice this for awhile it will start to come more naturally. You will need to be
patient as you allow the skill to develop. One more thing you will need to be a good piano player is knowledge of
scales and chords.
Having a good understanding of scales and chords helps your piano playing. If you know the scales and chords you
can play them easily without looking at the notes. This is another skill that will make your piano playing smoother
and more natural.
