Piano Lessons For Beginners
Do you want to learn to play the piano, but are intimidated by the amount of time it seems to require? Would you
like to learn an efficient method of playing? Choosing the right guide will not only allow you to learn quickly,
but enable you to perfect your technique and discover the joy of the instrument.
Learning to play the piano need not be challenging. Once you have mastered a few basic skills, you should be
able to quickly explore more difficult and interesting music. The key to this exploration? Learning to read
music.
Surprisingly, many musicians, including many aspiring pianists, never truly learn to read music. Often, in their
desire to get to the good stuff, they neglect the development of this basic skill, never appreciating that musical
literacy is the foundation on which great technique is built!
Understandably, learning to read music can seem tedious, but to the accomplished pianist it is second nature. If
you want to excel, or even just avoid frustration, then practice this skill.
It may sound obvious, but to read music your eyes must be on the notes. So the first step is to look at the
music while you play. This may be difficult in the beginning, when you are unsure of your fingering, but if you are
patient with yourself, you should be able to do both at once. With practice, you will become more focused, more
confident in your fingering and you will increase the speed at which you read music.
Once you've become comfortable reading while playing, the next step will be to learn how to read ahead. This is
similar to the process of reading words, in which our eyes have been trained to look slightly ahead in the sentence
in order to improve comprehension. Knowing what comes next will allow you to understand the music and play it
smoothly and naturally.
Again, learning Rocket Piano is a skill which needs to be practiced, not a
"talent" that you either have or don't, so begin slowly! Since you'll need to remember the notes that you're
playing while at the same time reading upcoming notes, start by looking just a few notes ahead. Don't rush
yourself! Be patient.
Learning to read ahead will be of enormous benefit when playing scales. Once you know your scale, all you need
to do to play it easily is to read the first and last note, allowing you to concentrate on other aspects of the
music. This is a terrific example of how acquiring a basic skill can create greater enjoyment and better
technique.
